A response to our Forder query
Paul Burkhalter
'I wonder if you can help. I am trying to find out more about the original wooden viaduct that you used to cross Forder Creek, Cornwall, before the line was realigned and the newer one was opened in 1908. For example when was it demolished?'
Paul Burkhalter kindly responded with the below:
'Forder was a Brunel Class C structure. 606 ft long and 67 ft high, built for the line opening in 1859. It was replaced by the new stone viaduct further inland on the new alignment when that opened in 1908. John Binding’s Brunel’s Cornish Viaducts is the authoritative publication on the subject. He does not record a demolition date but it has to be assumed to be soon after the deviation opened.'
Many thanks Paul for your prompt and knowledgeable answer.
